About essential Omega-3 fatty
acids
 | Flaxseed
is one of the richest sources of
alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), the main compound
of valuable omega-3 fatty acids.
It would take approximately 3 pounds of salmon to
equal only 50 grams of flaxseed. Omega
3 fatty acid is considered essential. Your body CANNOT
produce it, but requires it, so
your diet must provide it.
Most diets do not include this necessary
fat. Flaxseed is unique in that 48% of its total fat content is Omega
3 fatty acids.
Studies have also shown that alpha-linolenic acid may lower the risk
of stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. Both the Food and
Agriculture Organization and the World Health Organization recommend
an increased daily intake of omega-3 fatty acids. |
 |
Flax seed rich in Omega 3's,
helps to lower high blood cholesterol and
triglyceride levels. Consuming flaxseed, rich in
Omega 3's,
is said to lower total cholesterol and LDL
cholesterol, the artery clogging bad
cholesterol that can build up restricting blood
flow. Lowering triglycerides reduces the
risk of clogging arteries, which can help protect against heart
attacks and strokes. |
